GET THE FACTS: • It is against the law for parents to supply alcohol to their teen’s friends under any circumstance, even in their own home. • You can be prosecuted if you knowingly allow a person under the age of 21 to remain on your property or in your home while they consume alcoholic beverages. • You can be sued if anyone under the age of 21 hurts themselves, someone else, or damages property under the influence of alcohol provided to them by you.

UNDERAGE DRINKING; KNOW THE FACTS: Twenty-nine percent (29%) of parents and teens know parents who host teen parties where alcohol is supplied. Twenty-five percent (25%) of teens attended a party where alcohol was served in the past two months. Sixty-one percent (61%) of teens believe that it is easy for youth to obtain alcohol. Every day, 5,400 people under age 16 have their first alcoholic drink. Children who drink alcohol by 7th grade are more likely to have academic problems, substance abuse, and delinquent behavior.

PLANNING A NON-ALCOHOLIC PARTY FOR YOUR TEEN; HELPFUL HINTS: Set rules ahead of time: No alcohol, drugs or tobacco will be allowed. Once you leave you will not be allowed back. Have plenty of food and non-alcoholic drinks. Plan activities. Limit the party to a certain area. Ex: Backyard, living room, garage. Secure all forms of alcohol and any other potentially hazardous items some place safe. If someone does show up with alcohol contact their parents and request the person leave immediately.
