LifeSkills Training

LifeSkills Training is a flexible and interactive research-based program combining
coaching, peer interaction, lecture, classroom discussion and provider-led activities.

Developed by Gilbert J. Botvin, Ph.D,
LifeSkills is a curriculum that delivers significant
results in reducing the risks students are faced with daily such as smoking,
drug/alcohol abuse and violence.
LifeSkills provides students with the necessary
skills to resist social/peer pressures to smoke, drink, and use drugs. The curriculum
helps students to develop greater self-esteem and self-confidence, to effectively cope
with social anxiety, and increase their knowledge of the immediate consequences of
substance abuse.

Herkimer County Prevention Council (HCPC) uses the Elementary School Program
and the Middle School Program in several of the local school districts at the
recommended grade levels. Each program is developmentally appropriate and has
been proven to be effective by pre and post testing that shows the students are
learning the skills needed to resist drugs, alcohol and tobacco use.
