RESPONSIBLE PARTYING
Tis’  the season to be jolly
It's that time of  year again.....

Time to indulge yourself with those foods you don’t normally eat and possibly drink alcohol in excess at
Christmas and New Years' parties.

Why not make this year different with some party smarts!....

Responsible partying may sound like a contradiction in terms, but there are in fact ways to be responsible
while partying. Here are some tips you can use so you and your family can have a safe and healthy holiday
season.
Don’t just tell your teenagers to never drink and drive or get into a car with someone that is drinking alcohol;
show them by your example:
1. Simply put: if you drink don’t drive.  Don’t send mix messages to your children. Be a good role model by following
your own advice.
2. Plan ahead: have a designated driver with you if you are planning on drinking.
3. Promptly report drunk drivers on the roadways to law enforcement.
Here are some tips to keep in mind if you are hosting a party this holiday season:

1.  When guests arrive that are planning on drinking, take their car keys to prevent driving
or riding impaired and help them to make other arrangements to get to their homes safely.

2.  Remember the legal drinking age is 21; do not let anyone under 21 drinks at your party.

It is against the law to give anyone under 21 years of age alcohol.

3.
One way to prevent underage drinking at your party is to make sure you have alcoholic
and non alcoholic drinks totally separate from each other.

1. Size – larger people may be able to drink more without being as affected as smaller people.
But, if the larger person’s size is due mostly to body fat, the reverse can be true since body fat
   does not absorb alcohol.

2. Gender – women tend to be smaller and have a higher percentage of body fat than men.

3. Rate of consumption- the faster a person drinks the alcohol the faster they will become intoxicated.

4. Strength of drink- a straight up drink (without ice) will be absorbed faster than a drink that is diluted
with ice or water. It is important to understand that 12 ounces of beer, 5 ounces of wine, and 1 ounce
of 100 proof liquor all have about the same amount of alcohol.

5. Food- an individual with a full stomach will not become intoxicated as quickly as someone on an empty
stomach because food delays the absorption of alcohol into the body.

The best way to show your
children responsible partying
is by actually hosting a
party without alcohol.

Your teenagers will see
that alcohol is not a
necessity to celebrating
the holiday season.
